TEE- Train
For the launch of the Trans Europ Express service in 1957, Dutch state railways Nederlandse Spoorwegen NS and the Swiss Federal Railways SBB jointly purchased five diesel multiple units, the DE IV no. 1001-1003 and the RAm TEE I nos. 501-502.
These extremely comfortable trains covered enormous mileage on the Zurich-Strasbourg-Luxembourg-Brussels-Amsterdam, Zurich-Bregenz-Munich, Zurich-Belfort-Paris, and Paris-Brussels-Amsterdam routes. In 1977, they were sold to Ontario Northland Railway in Canada.
A private initiative brought five cars back to Europe in 1998. They are currently still on display at the Netherlands Transport Museum (NTM). However, this museum has been shut down and is to be completely cleared by June 30, 2025. The collection is being liquidated. The TEE train is threatened with scrapping in the near future!
The newly established foundation called Stichting Trans Europ Express, based in the Netherlands, is taking the initiative to save the historic train.
THE TEE FOUNDATION URGENTLY NEEDS YOUR HELP!
Transport and a new location will require at least €100,000!
After the train’s rescue, the Trans Europ Express Foundation plans to begin restoration work immediately. The long-term goal is to return the train in operation and bring it back on the European railways.
